Covington & Burling Webinar (Hybrid)
"Sanctions and International Arbitration"
I Event Description
Covington & Burling LLP is delighted to invite you to our hybrid webinar on sanctions and international arbitration.
Geopolitical tensions have reached their highest levels in decades after the U.S., the EU, the U.K., Canada, Australia, Japan, and Korea imposed a swath of unprecedented sanctions against Russia following its invasion of Ukraine. As a result, a growing number of companies are facing difficulties in operating their businesses all around the world.
Drawing upon the experiences of advising such companies, this panel will discuss the impact of sanctions on international arbitration in different phases of its life cycle and provide practical guidance on issues related to sanctions. In particular, this panel comprised of a sanctions specialist, and investment and commercial arbitration experts, will explore:
An overview of international sanctions and their impact on contractual performance;
How companies can prepare for sanctions when drafting contracts;
How companies can consider revisiting contractual obligations as a result of sanctions;
Impact of sanctions on international arbitration in different phases of its life cycle (e.g., initiation of international arbitration against sanctioned entities, enforcement of arbitral awards)
